CREATING ADVENTURE

From California to the treacherous Yukon, Call of the Wild travels through some incredible landscapes that Happy Mushroom is proud to be a part of. The entire film was created in Unreal Engine using Virtual Production Tools. Happy Mushroom served as an extended team to Fox VFX Labs, providing consultation, artist and engineers.

TRAVELING LONG DISTANCES

We provided a team of Virtual Art Department Artists who created two different biomes – one lush plant dominated forest, and a snowy vista engulfed in frosted trees, rocks and ice. Our talented team provided lead lighting and render artists; designing environments, and tackling highly sophisticated design challenges in the project. Our Happy Mushroom engineers were also involved, helping construct tools to create efficiencies.

TREACHEROUS LANDSCAPES

Our team used a mixture of real-time terrain generators, and google earth to provide accurate landscapes. We then created a unique world within Unreal Engine using real-world data. The ice to be designed needed to be translucent enough to have depth, but frosted enough to show significant thickness. Snow and plants tend to be considered difficult in the 3D rendering world, mix this with fur, and you have quite an intricate 3D scene! These elements were key to make sure story beats were conveyed and not brushed over in Previs.
